SAFETY FIELD MANAGER

U.S. Concrete New York Division

 

Direct Report:

Safety Manager

 

Position Summary

To coordinate and implement company-wide loss prevention and control programs in order to provide a safe and healthy work environment and reduce the number, severity, and costs of workplace injuries/illnesses, and motor vehicle accidents.

 

Essential Job Functions

  1. Coordinate, implement and enforce safety program, policies and procedures.
  2. Coordinate, implement and/or facilitate health and safety training programs for employees, supervisors, and managers.
  3. Monthly inspections of properties, machinery, equipment, and construction sites to ensure compliance with state and federal safety and health regulations as well as company policies and procedures.
  4. Observe employees to identify unsafe work habits and use of prescribed safety equipment such as hard hats, glasses, goggles, respirators, and clothing.
  5. Prepares written reports regarding inspection and observation findings and recommends corrective action.
  6. Investigates all workplace accidents including vehicular accidents in order to ascertain root and contributing causes for use in recommending preventative measures and further development of the safety program.
  7. Prepares written investigative reports for all workplace accidents including vehicular accidents with recommendations for corrective actions.
  8. Prepares, coordinates, and implements accident follow-up training in order to disseminate pertinent accident information, causal factors and corrective actions.
  9. Responsible for reporting all investigation information to Safety Administrator for prompt claims reporting.
  10. Ensure proper outdoor signage and required notices posted properly at and inside facilities including but not limited to Speed Limits, Safety directives and protocols, OSHA and environmental postings, Safety reminders and Department of Labor required postings.
  11. Conduct Safety Training for all employees during Onboarding process with Human Resources, identifying key training modules for drivers, mechanics, and laborers as assigned.
  12. Conducts monthly plant and job site inspections.
  13. Conduct monthly plant Safety meetings.
  14. Conduct jobsite inspections as directed by the Safety Manager.
  15. Actively monitors DriveCam on a daily basis, reporting problems and coaching on incidents as directed by the Safety Manager.
  16. Go to Doctor's Appointments with employees as directed.
  17. Meets the physical requirements necessary to perform plant and truck inspections as well as at scene accident investigations.
  18. Capable of recognizing accident trends, identifying root causes, and formulating corrective measures.
  19. Capable of interpreting a broad range of governmental safety regulations, accessing application and ensuring compliance.
  20. Additional duties as assigned by Safety Manager, Regional VP, and Human Resources.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience:  Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Safety Certifications and experience preferred

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, or comparable publications.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.  Ability to utilize mathematical concepts to compute rate, ratio, percent, discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, volume, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve new or existing problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Scope and Responsibility: Responsible for ensuring that all areas of Operations are running as safe as possible according to set guidelines in the New York region.

Other Required Skills:

Must be able to take direction and follow instructions.

Must have the ability to keep a schedule and have regular, reliable attendance.

PC literate, analytical

Proficient in Microsoft Office software

Excellent oral and written English Communication Skills

Highly flexible, able to work on multiple projects while meeting deadlines

Excellent Organizational and interpersonal skills

Must be able to handle confidential information with confidence of Management

Must be accurate and have strong attention to detail

Must be able to maintain accurate records

Must be comfortable using Computers, Phones, Scanners, Fax Machines, and Copiers

Must have active driver's license and reliable vehicle meeting the company auto policy requirements.

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, walk, talk, hear and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.

 

Work Environment

The incumbent is occasionally required to work near moving mechanical parts and in outdoor weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
