Position Summary

Responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing company's employee safety at the site and jobsites. Ensure the company is in compliance and adheres to regulatory standards set by Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines to reduce work-related injuries. Support the implementation of Health and Safety Behavior programs by observing and coaching employees to improve safe work habits. Effective implementation of these programs will reduce hazards and modify behavior therefore improving the health and wellness of employees while improving workman's comp and auto liability costs. Responsible for ensuring that all employees are applying safe work practice and procedures daily according to US Concrete New York Region set guidelines.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Advise employees at safety meetings in conjunctions with local front-line managers on key subjects related to incidents, accidents and near misses investigated.
  2. Observe and coach on Health and Safety programs which address regulatory requirements, corporate initiatives, and behavioral training.
  3. Support training for employees on topics related to daily work activities and incident trends on a regular basis.
  4. Conduct site inspections, audits, and risk assessment.
  5. Identify process bottlenecks which expose workers to hazards and offer timely solutions.
  6. Assure all the employees are acting in adherence with work rules, policies, and procedures.
  7. Facilitate health & safety training programs and policies for employees, supervisors, and managers.
  8. Schedule onsite and offsite inspections of facilities, machinery, equipment, and jobsites where drivers may be exposed during daily work activity to ensure compliance with state and federal safety and health regulations as well as company policies and procedures.
  9. Observe and coach employees to identify unsafe work habits and use of prescribed safety equipment such as hard hats, glasses, high visibility clothing, safety shoes and task specific PPE i.e., goggles, respirators, face shields, etc.
  10. Prepare written reports regarding inspections, audits and observation findings with recommended corrective action which adhere to Federal, State and Corporate guidelines.
  11. Investigate all onsite and offsite accidents including vehicular accidents to ascertain root cause and support local management on implementing corrective action to eliminate reoccurrence of incident or accidents.
  12. Prepare written investigative reports for all onsite and offsite workplace accidents including vehicular accidents with recommendations for corrective actions.
  13. Responsible for reporting all investigation information to Safety Administrator for prompt claims reporting.
  14. Ensure proper signage and required notices are posted properly at facilities including but not limited to Speed Limits, Safety directives and protocols, OSHA and environmental postings, Safety reminders and Department of Labor required postings.
  15. Conduct Safety Training for all employees during Onboarding process with Human Resources and Safety Managers.
  16. Conduct inspections, audits, follow up of incidents and accidents as directed by the Safety Manager.
  17. Attend Doctor's Appointments with employees as directed.
  18. Additional duties as assigned by Safety Manager, Regional VP, and Director of Human Resources.


  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
  • Must have active driver's license and reliable vehicle.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Safety Certifications and experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of how machinery, vehicles and other equipment operate preferred.
  • Previous work experience as a site safety officer or DOT experience is preferred.
  • One (1) or Two (2) plus years of experience in management preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, or comparable publications.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and power point presentations. Ability to effectively communicate to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Must be self-starter, able to create and manage a schedule without being instructed.
  • Must be able to develop a Positive Relationship with field supervisors and driver/employees.
  • PC literate, analytical, proficient in Microsoft Office software.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule to meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to handle confidential information.
  • Must be accurate and have strong attention to detail.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, walk, talk, hear and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Meets the physical requirements which may consist of climbing, squatting, walking on uneven terrain as necessary to perform plant and truck inspections as well as at scene accident investigations.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.

Work Environment

The incumbent is occasionally required to work near moving mechanical parts and in outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
