Concrete Sales Representative (Outside Sales) | Eastern Concrete Materials

Position Summary

The Sales Representative has responsibility for the marketing and sale of concrete and other related engineered products; manages to achieve sales and profit and growth goals within the New York City and Northern New Jersey metropolitan region. Experience with building materials, construction and concrete industry preferred. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Must be able to meet with and/or call on potential customers and existing customers
  • Perform associated administrative duties; periodically generate reports on such activity for operations/sales management team and corporate management.
  • Evaluates, recommends and implements programs to increase the region's sales volume and profitability.
  • Must be able to monitor competition by gathering current marketplace information on pricing, products, new products, etc.
  • Complete scheduled and cold call prospecting activities to establish first and follow up appointments with customer decision makers.
  • Designs, recommends and implements sales, marketing and promotional programs and sets short-term and long-term sales strategies.
  • Designs and recommends product or service enhancements to improve customer satisfaction and sales potential.
  • Must meet deadlines required for time-sensitive materials and maintain records regarding sales and generate reports comparing projections to actual performance.
  • Must be proficient in basic mathematics for sales invoice totaling and report calculations.
  • Must perform work in a neat and understandable fashion for recipients of reports.
  • Should be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and co-workers.


Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business, marketing or engineering and 3 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience working in sales/marketing with building materials, concrete or construction industry in a major metropolitan market desired. (NYC/NJ preferred)
  • Technical knowledge of concrete mix designs a plus.
  • Experience with order taking preferred.

  • Have the ability to communicate and interact well with others.
  • Must be a self-starter who works well with minimum of supervision.
  • Must be able to read, write, hear, and verbally communicate in English directly or over telephone or in person.

Business Development: 

  • Ability to recognize, identify and develop growth opportunities within the market scope.

Language Skills: 

  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, and other internal and external stakeholders.  
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations to Architects, Engineers, Owners and Contractors regarding engineered sales, high strength concrete and environmentally friendly products.

Mathematical Skills: 

  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts to financial statements, budgets and cash flow and pricing theories and conflict resolution.

Reasoning Ability: 

  • Ability to directly, or through others, develop a strategic plan based on a keen understanding of customer and market insights into a logical plan of action. 
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Other Required Skills: 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software; strong organizational and time management skills; must be able to maintain confidential information

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, walk, talk, hear and occasionally lift up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.

Work Environment

  • The incumbent is occasionally required to work near moving mechanical parts and in outdoor weather conditions. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
