SUMMARY:  Follows direction from Laboratory Supervisor.  Within a team framework, a laboratory technician is responsible for implementing a QA program for raw materials and a QC program that ensures products produced meet project specifications and customer expectations.  Additionally, a laboratory technician is expected to be able to conduct applied research testing, i.e., formulate a problem statement, lay out a testing program and make recommendations based on the results.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Calibrate production and testing equipment. 
  • Sample and test raw materials for specification compliance.
  • Perform QC tests on concrete and mortar. 
  • Record and report test results to customers, plants, batch and sales personnel.
  • Use test results to make recommendations on product changes.
  • Troubleshoot fresh and hardened concrete/mortar problems.
  • Conduct periodic informative programs for drivers, plant, batch and sales personnel.
  • Must be able to take direction.

  • Must have the ability to keep to a schedule.
  • Must have regular and reliable attendance.
  • Must have the ability to focus on details.

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to utilize spreadsheet capabilities in Excel, also having knowledge of Micro-Soft Word and Access is very beneficial.
  • Lab and/or field testing of concrete experience helpful.
  • Must be punctual, dependable and team oriented.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Basic math, computer and keyboarding skills are required.
  • Valid California Driver's License and satisfactory driving record is required.
  • Detail oriented.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Four year degree from an accredited school in concrete management, construction or any other similar degree. Previous experience with the concrete industry and especially concrete and material testing are preferred.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

ACI Field and State Plant and Field Certifications (or willing to attain after hired).

Valid driver's license.
