Area Controller

Location: New York Region

Based in College Point, NY, co-located in Saddle Brook, NJ


Overview: Reporting to the Regional Controller for the Atlantic Region, the New York Area Controller will oversee the accounting operations, internal controls, and policies and procedures for the regional accounting team including day-to-day supervision of billing, credit, inventory, capital projects, accounts payable, and monthly general ledger close. 


Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage the area accounting function in day-to-day activities including reconciliation and analysis of balance sheet accounts, complete month-end journal entries and other closing procedures.
  • Manage the area's capital expenditure process, including tracking, approvals, project status, etc.
  • Manage the area's inventory accounting and product costing functions.
  • Conduct reviews of financial statements and work extensively with the financial analysis group during month end close to explain budget variances and trends.
  • Responsible for coordination of accounts payable with the shared services function at our corporate headquarters.
  • Responsible for oversight and accuracy of billing and collection of accounts receivable.
  • Responsible for oversight of the credit function, including assessing credit worthiness, setting credit limits, and establishing credit practices.
  • Responsible for maintaining an effective internal control environment and adhering to internal control processes.
  • Provide guidance and training to the accounting staff, allowing them to fulfill their job responsibilities.
  • Provide regular feedback on staff job performance.
  • Review of supporting schedules for monthly reviews, quarterly reviews, annual budget and year-end audit.
  • Develop and manage policies and procedures and internal processes for all accounting functions to ensure more efficient and effective organization.
  • Communicate and collaborate with regional management team, including sales, operations, quality control and executive leadership.
  • Assist with strategic transactions, including acquisitions and divestitures.
  • Responsible for integration of accounting functions for acquired businesses in conjunction with IT, corporate, and operational personnel.
  • Liaison with corporate, operations, and internal/external audit.
  • Compliance with regulatory agencies/filings.



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years accounting experience and five (5) years management experience
  • Prior experience overseeing the accounting operations of a region of $250M+ in annual revenues
  • CPA, MBA and public accounting experience preferred
  • Strong systems/technology exposure
  • Self-starter, highly motivated and positive attitude
  • Strong communication skills - written and verbal
  • Strong problem solving/analytical skills
  • Familiarity with large ERP systems and Essbase strongly preferred
  • Must be willing to travel between our NY and NJ offices on a regular basis
